44. الدخان

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيم

حم﴿1﴾

1. Ha. Mim

وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ﴿2﴾

2. I swear by the illustrious Book

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ﴿3﴾

3. that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ﴿4﴾

4. On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ﴿5﴾

5. The command that We have been sending

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ﴿6﴾

6. as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing

رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ﴿7﴾

7. He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ﴿8﴾

8. There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers

بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿9﴾

9. In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs

فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿10﴾

10. Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke

يَغْشَى النَّاسَ ۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴿11﴾

11. which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment

رَّبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ﴿12﴾

12. Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers"

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ الذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿13﴾

13. How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them,

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ﴿14﴾

14. and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person"

إِنَّا كَاشِفُو الْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَائِدُونَ﴿15﴾

15. We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ﴿16﴾

16. However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ﴿17﴾

17. We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying,

أَنْ أَدُّوا إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ﴿18﴾

18. "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّي آتِيكُم بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿19﴾

19. Do not consider yourselves above God? I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness)

وَإِنِّي عُذْتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ﴿20﴾

20. I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا لِي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ﴿21﴾

21. If you do not want to believe, leave me alone"

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ﴿22﴾

22. Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners"

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ﴿23﴾

23. We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued

وَاتْرُكِ الْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ﴿24﴾

24. Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned

كَمْ تَرَكُوا مِن جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ﴿25﴾

25. How many were the gardens, springs,

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ﴿26﴾

26. corn-fields, gracious mansions,

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا فِيهَا فَاكِهِينَ﴿27﴾

27. and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind!

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا قَوْمًا آخَرِينَ﴿28﴾

28. We gave these as an inheritance to other people

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنظَرِينَ﴿29﴾

29. The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِينِ﴿30﴾

30. We rescued the Israelites from the humiliating torment

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿31﴾

31. and from the Pharaoh. He was the chief of the transgressors

وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ﴿32﴾

32. We gave preference to the Israelites over the other people with Our knowledge

وَآتَيْنَاهُم مِّنَ الْآيَاتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَاءٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿33﴾

33. and sent them revelations of which some were a clear trial for them

إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَيَقُولُونَ﴿34﴾

34. These people say,

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ﴿35﴾

35. "After we die, we shall never be raised to life again

فَأْتُوا بِآبَائِنَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ﴿36﴾

36. Bring back to life our fathers if what you say is true"

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ﴿37﴾

37. Are they better than the tribe of Tubba (name of a Yemenite tribal chief) and those who lived before them? We destroyed them. They were criminals

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ﴿38﴾

38. We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for Our own amusement

مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿39﴾

39. We have created them for a genuine purpose, but most people do not know

إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِيقَاتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿40﴾

40. The appointed time for all of them will be the Day of Judgment

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿41﴾

41. (when wrong will be distinguished from right). On this day friends will be of no benefit to one another, nor will they receive any help

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ﴿42﴾

42. except for those to whom God grants mercy. He is Majestic and All-merciful

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّومِ﴿43﴾

43. The tree of Zaqqum

طَعَامُ الْأَثِيمِ﴿44﴾

44. is food for the sinner

كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِي فِي الْبُطُونِ﴿45﴾

45. It will be like molted brass which will boil in the bellies

كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ﴿46﴾

46. like water

خُذُوهُ فَاعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ﴿47﴾

47. (It will be said of such sinners), "Seize them and drag them into the middle of hell

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَمِيمِ﴿48﴾

48. Then pour unto their heads the boiling water to torment them"

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ﴿49﴾

49. They will be told, "Suffer the torment. You had thought yourselves to be majestic and honorable

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ﴿50﴾

50. This is the torment that you persistently doubted"

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ﴿51﴾

51. The pious ones will be in a secure place

فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ﴿52﴾

52. amid gardens and springs,

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ﴿53﴾

53. clothed in fine silk and rich brocade, sitting face to face with one another

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ﴿54﴾

54. We shall unite them to maidens with big black and white lovely eyes

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ آمِنِينَ﴿55﴾

55. They will be offered all kinds of fruits, in peace and security

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَاهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ﴿56﴾

56. They will not experience any death other than that which they have already been through

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ﴿57﴾

57. God will protect them from the torment of hell as a favor from your Lord. (Muhammad), this is certainly the greatest triumph

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ﴿58﴾

58. We have made the Quran easy for you to recite so that perhaps they may take heed

فَارْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ﴿59﴾

59. Wait (for God's decree) and they too will be waiting
